It all started in 2008. Five cyclists teamed up to ride 450 miles through Wyoming. The mission was to raise funds to support the community’s hospital and nursing home. That year, Ride the Range raised $10,000 to benefit their community.
They continued cycling over four years and raised a total of approximately $50,000 to donate to the hospital and nursing home.
Then, the focus shifted slightly. In 2017 we had the opportunity to see first-hand how women’s lives can be impacted when hunting and learning together. The camaraderie and growth experienced at the Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt, hosted by the Wyoming Women’s Foundation, was profound. As one participant shared, “It inspired me to live my life again.” This hunter was able to participate in the hunting weekend through a scholarship.
We realized we had an opportunity to impact lives by bringing this opportunity to more women.
So in 2019 we switched gears and developed Ride the Range to Empower Women Veterans. Our goal was to raise funds to provide scholarships for women veterans to attend the Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt. That first year we raised over $23,000. The next year $34,000. And the following year $40,000.
Going into our fourth year, we are just shy of raising a total of $100,000 in scholarships for our women veterans.
The cyclists have ranged from five cyclists the first year, to one cyclist another year, to bringing grandchildren into the peloton this last year. Follow along as Ride the Range continues to grow and evolve…but always moving forward to lift one another up.
